The story of Cleopatra Selene, daughter of the famed monarch, is brilliantly delivered in this stunning audio. The narrator is pitch perfect and the production has some lovely touches including the music that segments the novel is pomp with a touch of ominous danger. The is one of the best listens I have had in a long time. This is produced by Oasis Audio - one that I had not heard of prior to this.  Joan Kindig

Rhythmic music gives both an ominous and regal cast to this atmospheric narration of the story of Cleopatra’s daughter, Selene. Selene struggles to hold her family and her nation together following the deaths of Cleopatra and Mark Anthony. Both compelling and informative, this is historical fiction at its best. Ages 14+

Positive Comments:
  • The narrator has a beautiful voice.
  • The audio’s tempo is appropriate, and the music offers a flavor of the time.
  • The setting descriptions are vivid.

Concerns:

  • How the daughter identifies the different years of her mother’s reign is never clear.
  • The music before each chapter makes the audio longer and becomes annoying after several repetitions.
  • The book’s audience seems to be more adult than young adult.
  • The voice makes the character seem too old when she is young, and then as she gets older, the voice sounds too young.
